New Delhi: YSR Congress Chief Jagan Mohan Reddy on Tuesday said they will support the Bharatiya Janata Party in the Lok Sbaha elections if the party stood by their cause oh a united Andhra. Speaking to IBN18's Editor-in-Chief Rajdeep Sardesai, Jagan Reddy said, "Our cause is united Andhra. We are willing to support the BJP. We are willing to support anybody as a matter of fact who is willing to keep my state united. We have no qualms in aligning with anybody. Our one point agenda is we want our state united."
The remarks came in the backdrop of Parliament likely to pass Telangana Bill in the extended winter session. The announcement made by Jagan can be a good news for the BJP in the election year.
When asked if the party will support the Congress if it did a u-turn and assured a United Andhra, Jagan said, "Congress is a party which is dividing our state. What is happening in Andhra Pradesh is a man made problem. A state like Andhra Pradesh which had absolutely no problems has floundered into problem, a man made problem."
Jagan also appreciated Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy's effort for a united Andhra and said he will appreciate anyone who stands for the cause. He said, "I am happy wisdom has dawned on Kiran Reddy. Three weeks before the elections schedule is announced his compulsion made him realise he got to toe this line. Eight months back when Sonia Gandhi announced this decision, if he on that particular day resigned as from the post and threw the letter to Sonia Gandhi the situation would not have come this far. It would have crated a constitutional crisis eight months ago. I would have appreciated Kiran Kumar Reddy also had he four weeks before winter session of Parliament had come to Hyderabad, spoken to all striking employee unions and ensured all the employee unions withdrew their strike."
With Lok Sabha elections just months away, the issue of Telangana is likely to be raised by many parties and for many it can be a poll plank, but Jagan clarified that he will go ahead with united Andhra plank. He said, "We will go on united Andhra plank. TDP Telangana people support Telangana whereas TDP Andhra people support united Andhra. In the Congress also you have similar situation. Our party is standing in one line, even our MLAs and MPs who contest in Telangana would be contesting on united Andhra plank."
He added, "I am saying out of 17 Telangana seats, we will take at least 5 out of 17. In Seemandhra, we will sweep 25 out of 25."
On the question of TDP Chief Chandrababu Naidu in the national capital, he said, "Chandrababu Naidu doesn't know what he wants. Just get one word from him that I am from united Andhra, that will be the biggest story. One single word I am for united Andhra."
